Waterfalls and a serious lack of bears. . .

There are so many waterfalls around Chuzenjiko; I visited a few of the falls, and went hiking on Senjogahara Moor (and although the sign said "Scenic Trail Across the Open Moor", the hike was entirely wooded. But not that I'm complaining. Hey, the sign also said "Bear Aware" and gave warnings, but I didn't even get to see one bear! False advertising, all of it ;)

I had the same problem when I lived in Germany...I saw signs for "Bear Aware", yet no bears were in sight, except people with no clothes on, that looked suprisingly like bears. It then dawned upon me that the good German who made the sign probably meant to say "bare aware" as in "everyone on this beach will be buck nudey". So, what's the point of this comment? I truly don't know. Perhaps that, not all bears one sees are necessarily bears and that sometimes not seeing a bear is the real blessing. And, of course, the old chestnut, "never trust a German sign-maker that got a D in English."
